Doncaster joinery business achieve latest ISO accreditation

Business Doncaster helped steer NK Joinery Ltd through an application for the Council’s ERDF Productivity Grant, that has enabled them to successfully achieve UKAS certification.

Both Stephen Cross and Declan McDonagh originally worked together as Bench Joiners/Cabinet Makers. Following redundancy in 2009 they were left wondering, what next? They had both gained enough industry knowledge and experience to ‘go it alone’ so they decided to set up a business partnership as NK Joinery. The rest is history!

NK Joinery Ltd cover all aspects of joinery from bespoke, handmade to more modern machinery produced joinery and is renowned for its craftsmanship, commitment to customers and a passion for what they do.

NK Joinery currently operates from a 7000 sq. ft. facility, having made significant investment in the best quality machinery to ensure their capabilities exceed requirements. They employ a team of ten experienced joiners that can boast a combined 100+ years’ industry experience, with all staff trained in manufacturing with Corian and various other solid surfaces. They also recruit apprentices each year.

Business Doncaster has recently helped steer the business through an application for the Council’s ERDF Productivity Grant, that has enabled them to successfully achieve UKAS certification to ISO9001:2015. ISO14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. They are certainly very proud to have achieved this certification as it demonstrates their quality, environmental and health and safety commitments and exceptionally high standard of work.

Business Doncaster provided support, advice and guidance throughout their ISO journey, helping to make the ISO process manageable and relevant. As a result, it has helped the business make improvements to their internal systems and processes, driving efficiency and increased productivity and enhancing their customer base.

Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Portfolio holder for Housing and Business commented: “it is important we ensure smaller enterprises in Doncaster remain competitive amid rapid changes in customer behaviours and expectations. The grant funding they have received supported by Business Doncaster, has helped the business to overcome barriers to digital transformation, therefore enhancing resilience, digital capability and future business growth”.

NK Joinery are currently working on the renovation of Doncaster Corn Exchange at Doncaster Market, manufacturing and installing the new shop fronts inside as well as manufacturing oak wall paneling, staircase balustrades, handrails and a number of bespoke doors.

The striking 19th Century building is being restored by Doncaster Council to its former glory in a multi-million-pound makeover, following a successful funding bid to the Levelling Up Fund.
