Green credentials help Doncaster Haylage business increase international demand

Councillor Jones visited M&T Haylage to see first-hand how the innovative business incorporates green technologies to harvest superior hay and haylage products

Doncaster Council’s Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Housing and Business, Glyn Jones visited M&T Haylage in High Melton to see first-hand how the innovative agricultural business incorporates green technologies and sustainable land management to harvest superior hay and haylage products. The visit, in partnership with Business Doncaster, discovered how the business has successfully grown and their ambitions for the future.

Michael Woolhouse, Director, gave Councillor Jones and Business Doncaster a tour of the farm, including areas where the business has invested in green technology and the latest facilities currently under construction. Green technology plays an important part of Michael’s vision to provide the global market with premium forage using sustainable and innovative technologies. Not only does it save on energy costs but also reduces the environmental impact from the production of M&T Haylage’s products for equine, zoo and small animal industries. Customers include racing yards in the UK, Flat and National Hunt racehorse trainers, competition and livery yards, pet suppliers and even Doncaster’s own Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Glyn Jones said ‘it was great to learn how M&T Haylage manage their land in a considered way to support the environment and local wildlife. What they are doing to keep the land fertile and produce superior products is first rate. Many businesses could learn from their environmentally focused approach and how they have successfully incorporated these technologies into their business.’

Alex Dochery from Business Doncaster added ‘we have worked with M&T Haylage for some time and it has been good to get out and see the great things they are achieving. Their success is not only local but includes exports to important markets throughout Asia, Europe and further afield. I think the plans that Michael and his team have for the future are exciting and will further strengthen this excellent business'

‘Understandably, like many other local businesses, concerns related to the rise in energy costs were a topic of conversation. Business Doncaster will continue to work with M&T Haylage to help in any way they can through these challenging times for local businesses.
