New premises add to business success for environmental consultancy

The Testing Lab PLC are an established and recognised environmental consultancy in Doncaster with engineers and auditors all across the UK.

The team of technical staff are controlled via the National Control Centre here in Doncaster, providing a service nationally to create economical solutions to asbestos compliance, legionella, geotechnical, water management services, fire risk assessments, EPC’s and PAT Testing.

The company have offered 18 apprenticeships since 2010; 12 of which are still employed as well as taking part in the Governments Kickstart programme that provides 16 – 24 year olds a work placement for 6 months.

The Testing Lab PLC were awarded 23 places on the kickstart scheme with all 23 places being filled. 9 have continued their employment after the scheme ended, with 2 due to complete the kickstart scheme next month and join us full time, following them completing an intensive course, which will provide them with an industry recognisable qualification. This is also something that TTL provided for 4 other young people on kickstart.

A spokesperson for the DWP said: “Kickstart has made such a difference to young people in Doncaster, many of whom would not have had the same opportunity without it. Success of the scheme is down to employers such as The Testing Lab, who have recruited 9 young people on completion of the scheme. This has made a positive impact on their lives and future working careers”

In May 2022, they successfully extended their UKAS scope of Accreditation to include a comprehensive range of geotechnical materials testing. Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Housing and Business and Chris Dungworth, Head of Business Doncaster recently visited the company to congratulate them on their latest achievements and to hear all about their future plans.

The company is growing and will soon be moving into a bigger premises, whilst remaining in Doncaster, following a rescue package of a local business and the ability to transfer some of the existing staff and save jobs to accommodate their business expansion. This was the driving force behind applying for and receiving the extension to UKAS scope of accreditation, enabling these local people to continue to be in local employment in the industry they have been in for 20+ years, using the same equipment that they are used too and completing the same tests they have been trained to undertake.
