A local group that has been established to oversee the spending of government funding in Conisbrough has now appointed its chair.
Lani-Mae Ball, former ward councillor for Conisbrough, will be leading the area’s Pride in Place board (PiP), alongside additional members who have yet to be recruited.
Once fully formed, this group will be making key decisions about how a ten-year investment from national government (known as Pride in Place) will be used to deliver the kind of changes and improvements that the neighbourhood’s residents want to see most. To do this, it will proactively engage with the local community, develop investment priorities for Conisbrough, and ultimately set a clear vision for how the PiP funding will be utilised.
Looking forward to taking on their new role as Chair of the Conisbrough Pride in Place board, Lani-Mae Ball, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together and truly encompass having pride in where we live.
“So far, the board is filled with people with all different skills and experiences, ranging from poverty relief to delivering huge community events. We are a team of community activists and would love it if any others wanted to join us in planning how to spend the money. This is much needed investment in our wonderful community, and it’s an opportunity we can’t let slip away.
“This a long but exciting scheme, the funding is spread over 10 years. We want everyone to come on the journey with us, so let’s be as creative as possible!”
John Healey MP added "Pride in Place is a great opportunity to see real change in Denaby and Conisbrough and I am pleased that Lani-Mae Ball has been appointed as chair to lead the neighbourhood board and drive the programme forward.
“Lani is a brilliant local champion and is deep-rooted in the community. She has an understanding and knowledge of the area that will help deliver on the scheme’s ambitious objectives.
“I encourage residents to apply to be board members by completing the expression of interest. It is really important we have a range of people on the board to shape the programme over the next ten years."
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones added: “The Pride in Place funding will allow us to really focus on delivering for local areas like Conisbrough, and I am looking forward to seeing the long-term projects come about as a result of this major investment. I’d like to welcome Lani-Mae as the chair for the area’s new board and am confident that she will provide strong leadership to this group once it is up and running. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing what exciting opportunities come forward for Conisbrough in the near future.”
Residents in Conisbrough are being asked to put themselves forward if they would like to become part of the new team working on the long-term PiP plan.
Expressions of Interest can be submitted via a short statement (no more than 500 words), or via a short video (no more than two minutes) outlining previous experience and what this can bring to the make-up of the board. The successful applicants will work alongside Lani-Mae Ball and an elected member to help put together the long-term plan.
Any applications must be sent via email to pipconisbrough@doncaster.gov.uk and further information regarding the application process can be found via the links below.
