Club Doncaster completes purchase of Cantley Park training ground

Club Doncaster has completed the purchase of the Cantley Park training ground from City of Doncaster Council.

Cantley Park is the training base for Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Rovers Academy and Doncaster Rugby League. The training ground site will be wholly owned by Doncaster Rovers Football Club and held on its balance sheet, strengthening the club’s financial position. The purchase follows investment already made in the facilities, which will continue.

Gavin Baldwin, Chief Executive of Club Doncaster, said: “Owning the land at Cantley Park outright gives us the security to continue investing in the facilities where our players train every day. This is a significant step for Doncaster Rovers, the Academy and the Doncaster Rugby League and places the club on a stronger financial footing. We would like to thank City of Doncaster Council for their support in completing the purchase.”

Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Public Health at City of Doncaster Council, Cllr James Church, said: "Following the completion of this purchase, I would like to thank everybody involved on both sides. Our best wishes go to the future success of Doncaster Rovers and the Rugby League, as we know what the success of our local sports teams means for the local community and for the health of the community, with sporting success often encouraging more youngsters to take up sports at their local clubs.

“Cantley Park training ground is a fantastic facility and will be a real asset to all the players who use it on a regular basis. This is a fantastic deal all round and I thank those again for their hard work and involvement to reach this stage.”
