Doncaster Hesley Group invests in new £3 million investment programme

Over the past year, the business has announced significant investment across its specialist residential care, supported living and education services, including Mercury College, Mercury Rise and the expansion of Meadow View.

Together, the developments strengthen the organisation’s further education, residential care and supported living services for people with learning disabilities and intensive specialist support needs, many of whom are autistic.

Over the past year, Hesley Group has continued to invest significantly in its services and environments, with more than £1 million committed to new developments and a further £2 million invested into existing estates.

This investment reflects its ongoing commitment to creating high-quality, safe and enabling environments that give people their own space, greater choice and independence, and opportunities to develop the skills and confidence to thrive.

Among the developments is Mercury Rise, comprising eight individual supported living flats, with access to education at Mercury College according to each person’s needs. Hesley Group is also continuing to invest in Mercury College, its specialist college for young adults aged 18-25. At Meadow View, five additional solo bungalows are due to open in November, providing people with their own space while expanding specialist residential provision.

Hesley has also opened its first Neighbourhood Health and Wellbeing Centre at Meadow View, creating an authentic healthcare environment where people can build the confidence and skills needed to access health services in their local communities. Designed to replicate a community health centre, the facility includes a waiting area, information stations and consulting rooms, helping people build confidence and independence when attending appointments.

The investment includes the installation and improvement of 22 kitchens and 23 bathrooms, helping ensure environments remain safe, comfortable and fit for purpose. These improvements are designed to give people high-quality spaces that support greater independence, choice and quality of life.

The investment builds on another strong year for the organisation, with 100% of Hesley’s residential and supported living services rated Good or Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

During the year, Hesley’s supported living service achieved an Outstanding rating in its first CQC inspection, with inspectors highlighting its personalised support, strong culture and commitment to continuous improvement.

Virginia Perkins, chief executive officer at Hesley Group, said: “We are committed to creating high-quality environments that help the people we support live fulfilling, independent and meaningful lives.”

“This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering outstanding care, support and education in environments that are designed around the needs of the individual. Through continued investment in our facilities and estates, we are creating more opportunities for people to develop confidence, independence and the skills they need to thrive.”
