From animal welfare to the cat’s whiskers: Doncaster woman’s purr-fect career change

Tamsin Drysdale from Doncaster, a feline fan, is leaving an 18-year career working as an RSPCA inspector to start a premium cat care business providing top-tier care to kitties in Doncaster and the surrounding areas.

On Monday, 53-year-old Tamsin, launched The Cat Butler Doncaster, her new cat sitting service providing daily visits, feeding, playtime, and company to help cats stay happy and comfortable at home when their owners are away.

Explaining her career change, Tamsin said: "Being born and raised in Doncaster, I’m excited to bring a cat sitting service to my local community, which is built on genuine love, patience, and understanding. I know that cats are happiest in familiar surroundings, and I want to ensure they feel safe, relaxed, and cared for while their owners are away on holiday or for work.

“For me, it’s not just about feeding and routine - it’s about building trust, forming connections, and treating every cat as if they were my own.”

She added: “I’ve been a fosterer for cats for over 18 years, and my previous work with the RSPCA meant that I dealt with cats from many different situations and environments, so I understand how important it is for them to feel safe and relaxed in their own surroundings. Starting a cat sitting business felt like the next natural step.”

Commenting on her favourite breed of cat, Tamsin shared: “I’m a straightforward lover of the good old-fashioned moggy, but I adore feral kittens. I just love trying to tame those tiny little tigers. My other top choice though, is the big old battle-scarred street tom cats, which in my eyes are the true survivors of the feline world.”

Talking about her own furball family, Tamsin said: “My feline family consists of four cats: Maisie, who is 15, and Spider, 13 - both of which were cruelty cases from my previous role. Then I have brothers, Arthur, and Angus, who are six months old and whom I fostered at nine weeks. They’re part of the family now!”

Looking ahead, Tamsin commented: “I cannot wait to meet lots of different cats. Every cat has its own personality, from shy and gentle to bold and mischievous, and I’m excited to get to know them all while doing something I genuinely love.”
