From Doncaster Roots to Global Health-Tech Leadership

by Heather Hamilton

From a small startup in Doncaster to a global pioneer in wearable medical technology, MediBioSense Ltd is rewriting the future of healthcare.

Founded in 2015 with a bold vision to transform patient care, MediBioSense has grown into a multi-award-winning leader in medically approved wearable technologies, now operating in over 58 countries.

At the heart of MediBioSense’s innovation is VitalPatch, a fully certified medical wearable patch that provides continuous, clinical-grade data — including heart rate, ECG, respiration, temperature, SpO₂, blood pressure, fall detection, and activity. Used in NHS virtual wards and major healthcare systems worldwide, VitalPatch enables earlier detection, faster intervention, and better outcomes, all while reducing pressure on overstretched healthcare systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point. As demand for remote monitoring surged, MediBioSense rapidly scaled into telehealth, helping hospitals manage patients safely at home. Since then, the company has expanded into AI-driven dashboards, hospital system integrations, and new sectors including defence, elderly care, and industrial safety.

Continuous monitoring of patients' vital signs in real-time, every second, every day, has created a new paradigm in healthcare that has not existed before. This involves the ability to know any issues before they happen, react sooner, and reduce the costs and demands on healthcare services.

Launching in October/November 2025, a game-changer in medical wearables, will see the Infinity Watch introduced, set to redefine wearable health tech. This 3-in-1 device — combining a smartwatch, smartphone, and medical wearable will deliver true clinical accuracy while functioning as a standalone Android device with cellular, GPS, and IoT capabilities.

Unlike consumer wellness gadgets, Infinity is built for clinicians, governments, and humanitarian organisations. A pre-release version is already being used in the Gaza/Israel conflict to help deaf/blind citizens receive danger alerts — a powerful example of how MediBioSense’s technology extends beyond healthcare into life-saving humanitarian applications.

CEO Simon Beniston said: “We’re not just building devices — we are building a future where healthcare is wearable, connected, and proactive. No other wearable medical technology can match our ability for real-time continuous monitoring and accurate clinical reporting”.

In South Africa, its technology remotely monitors 3,600 patients annually in underserved communities and in Australia, it’s helping bring healthcare to indigenous populations.

The company also champions greener healthcare. By reducing hospital visits and travel through remote monitoring, MediBioSense lowers carbon emissions. It has also adopted zinc-air batteries, a more environmentally friendly alternative to lithium-ion, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and Net Zero goals.

Despite its global footprint, MediBioSense remains proudly rooted in Doncaster. With a core team of 5–10 employees and a distributed network of over 100 global partners, the company is working closely with Business Doncaster to help deepen its local engagement., demonstrating how world-class innovation can thrive anywhere.

The next chapter is focused on the successful global rollout of the Infinity Watch. MediBioSense is expanding across the UK, Europe, Saudi Arabia, South America, and Australia, with plans to open the Infinity platform for developers to create new applications in safety, logistics, and humanitarian response.
