Gateway One development reaches next major milestone

Residents and visitors to Doncaster may have noticed that the development site for the new 52,000 sq ft Grade A office hub has reached its next major milestone.

The five-storey digital tech hub, located on Trafford Way adjacent to Doncaster Rail Station, has now reached the stage where the overall structure has been completed, with the building having been constructed to its highest point.

To commemorate the completion, delegations from across industry and the public sector gathered to sign a commemorative plaque and steel beam. Delegates that signed the plaque and beam included Doncaster Mayor Ros Jones and Mark Taylor, CEO of Automated Analytics, the flagship anchor tenants for the building.

This commemorative signing marks the beginning of the next phase of development of the building, which is set to open in early 2027.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “This milestone marks the building reaching its highest point, and is a moment that symbolises the incredible ambition and confidence of our city.

“When completed in early 2027, Gateway One will stand as a physical representation of Doncaster’s confidence, creativity and determination to build a thriving, future-focused economy that will benefit everyone in Doncaster.

“Bringing together Doncaster’s growing digital and tech sector, this building will be the home of the city’s growing digital and tech sector, with innovative businesses, facilitating cross-sector collaboration and sparking new ideas that will benefit the entire city. I want to thank everybody involved for getting this exciting project to this next milestone.”

Chris Yates, Yorkshire director at Willmott Dixon, said: “We’re pleased to have reached this milestone as we continue to build a cutting-edge and sustainable hub where digital and technology businesses can thrive and grow, complete with accessible public spaces that can be enjoyed by the local community.

“This development has seen us work with two T-Level students from Doncaster College, deliver 77 hours of educational support to local school and colleges and provide 382 hours of employment support for Doncaster residents. We’ll continue to work closely with our partners to deliver this landmark project for an ambitious and growing city.”

Mark Taylor, Founder and CEO of Automated Analytics, said: “Today marks a key milestone in the countdown to the opening of Gateway One, the AI Innovation Growth Zone for Doncaster and South Yorkshire. This new innovation hub will be a catalyst not only for inward investment but for the continued regeneration of the City, where collaboration will sit at the heart of creating opportunities to propel companies like ours on our scaling journey."

Dan Fell OBE, Chief Exec at Doncaster Chamber, said: “At times when business confidence is suppressed, flagship projects like the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Gateway One are more important than ever. This is because they create confidence and demonstrate to local businesses, government, and potential investors alike that we’re getting things done here in Doncaster. I have strong hopes that Gateway One will attract new investors to our city that will complement and boost our growing tech sector.”

Gateway One aims to bring together leading AI companies, innovative local business and attract global entrepreneurs by providing them with the tools to scale and succeed in Doncaster.
