Mini golf attraction at Yorkshire Wildlife Park gets the green light

Plans were submitted to City of Doncaster Council earlier this year for development on a site at the entrance to the Yorkshire Hive, the park's shopping, dining and entertainment venue. The new attraction is intended to be temporary for a period of two-to-three years and will be situated on a site previously occupied by a ferris wheel.

The land is earmarked for the further expansion of the Yorkshire Hive. The development would provide additional leisure uses to attract visitors to the Yorkshire Hive and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park until funding can be secured to complete the previously approved hotel and associated facilities.

A statement submitted as part of the application said: "This proposal intends to increase facilities for recreation and leisure in the area to increase the number of visitors to Doncaster. By encouraging more visitors to Doncaster, we can generate more jobs and opportunities within the area."

The council has now granted approval for the development, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.

A planning officer's report accompanying the decision said: "The proposal is considered in the context of the presumption in favour of sustainable development in that the economic factors weigh in positive favour and should be balanced against the current visual impact. Nevertheless, the specific circumstances of the current stages of the Hub redevelopment justifies a temporary permission."
