A range of new vacancies have been posted for positions at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, as the site ramps up activity as it seeks to bring freight and passenger flights back to the city.
The new positions include vacancies for a Head of Air Traffic Services, as well as Watch Managers for the Fire and Rescue Service, there will also be roles advertised for the in-house security team.
Recruitment for the specialist team that will assume air traffic control responsibilities is a critical enabler for the programme. Applications are now open for Air Traffic Controllers with a minimum of one year’s operational experience, who will play a central role in managing both en‑route and aerodrome traffic.
In addition, the roles of Senior Air Traffic Controller and Head of Air Traffic Services will provide strategic oversight of the unit, ensuring the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic, as well as the effective coordination of airspace, runway, and ground‑movement operations.
In addition, vacancies for an Airfield Project Manager, as well as corresponding roles for Facilities and Landside, have now gone live on the City of Doncaster Council jobs portal.
The latest recruitment campaign is set against a backdrop of around 40 people already being employed on site, including the new Head of Health Safety and Fire Safety, Shane Berry, Head of Fire & Emergency Planning, Wes Bunting, and the Head of Cargo and General Aviation, Gary Winterman.
Shane and Gary bring decades of aviation experience to the team, while Wes brings a wealth of Fire & Rescue Service leadership to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
Simon Hinchley, Executive Director of Airport Operations, said: “With activity gathering pace at the airport site, we’re excited to be recruiting for these important new roles. These positions form a core part of our future operating model and will help us continue strengthening capability across all areas of the business. Operating an airport is a team effort, and a variety of further roles will be going live throughout the year, as we accelerate towards a team of 200 by the end of 2026.
“Having the experience of individuals such as Shane, Wes and Gary involved in our project is a further vote on confidence in this airport. They bring a wealth of knowledge, which they’ll be using to help develop and upskill a new generation of talent. This, twinned with the work we’re already doing alongside local education providers, really demonstrates the value of what this project is bringing to the region.
Christian Foster, Director of Fly Doncaster said: “Opening an airport isn’t as simple as turning up and switching the lights back on. In such a safety-critical industry, it’s vital that we build a team sustainably as they familiarise themselves with critical processes and procedures needed to operate effectively.
“Anyone visiting the airport will see a hive of activity, as we progress at pace towards getting this important infrastructure back open and contributing to local jobs, future skills and the economic development of the region.”
The new roles going live this week mark an important step forward for the project, which is currently undergoing airspace and aerodrome recertification.
