Three days of free interactive experiences will showcase cutting-edge technology and career opportunities in the RAF Regulars and Reserves.
Residents across South Yorkshire will have the opportunity to explore careers in the Royal Air Force this month as the RAF Town Show arrives in Doncaster, bringing interactive displays, aircraft exhibits and serving personnel into the heart of the town.
Running from Friday 27 March to Sunday 29 March, the free event will give visitors the chance to step inside a replica RAF Chinook aircraft, meet RAF Regulars and Reserves, and discover the wide range of careers available within one of the UK’s most technologically advanced organisations.
Doncaster has a long aviation heritage. The former RAF Finningley airbase played a key role in Britain’s air power throughout the twentieth century, hosting Bomber Command training operations during the Second World War and later becoming home to Vulcan bomber squadrons during the Cold War.
Part of a nationwide tour visiting 15 towns and cities across the UK, the RAF Town Show is expected to attract thousands of visitors of all ages to discover how South Yorkshire residents have built careers across more than 60 different RAF specialisations – from cyber security and engineering to intelligence analysis and logistics.
Flight Sergeant Daniel Eccles, event organiser, said: "Doncaster has a proud aviation history through RAF Finningley, and we’re excited to bring the RAF Town Show to the city so people can see how that legacy continues today. The RAF offers Regular, Reservist and apprenticeship opportunities, from pilots and air traffic controllers to medical and catering and hospitality roles, and this event gives people the chance to meet serving personnel and find out what a career in the service really looks like.”
The event will feature hands-on STEM challenges showcasing the innovation behind RAF operations, a mixed-reality experience, and the opportunity to compete in video games against the RAF Esports team. Families are actively encouraged to attend, with activities designed for all ages.
No prior registration is required to attend, but those who wish to register their interest in advance can do so via the event's Eventbrite page.
