What Is the Low Carbon Project?

The Low Carbon Project offers expert advice and grant funding to support businesses in making energy‑saving improvements to their premises, equipment, and processes.

Our tailored, one‑to‑one approach helps you understand your energy use and identify practical, cost‑effective ways to reduce both energy bills and environmental impact.

How the Project Can Help Your Business

By taking part, your business could:

  • Reduce ongoing energy costs
  • Improve productivity, resilience, and competitiveness
  • Safeguard jobs and support growth through reinvestment of savings
  • Lower carbon emissions and strengthen environmental credentials

Eligibility

To be eligible, your business must:

  • Be a Small or Medium‑Sized Enterprise (SME)
  • Operate from commercial premises in Doncaster
    (Home‑based businesses are not eligible)
  • Have received no more than £315,000 in Minimal Financial Assistance subsidy over the past three years

What Support Will You Receive?

Eligible businesses receive one‑to‑one support from a dedicated advisor, who will:

  • Review your energy use and identify opportunities to save energy
  • Arrange a free Energy Audit or provide a bespoke Energy Recommendations Report
  • Help you develop and deliver an energy‑saving improvement plan
  • Advise on funding options, including eligibility for a Low Carbon Grant
  • Signpost you to additional support to help reduce your carbon footprint

Low Carbon Grant Funding

The project includes a grant scheme to part‑fund energy‑saving improvements:

  • Grants of up to 50% of eligible project costs
  • Maximum grant: £12,499
  • Minimum grant: £1,500
    (Based on a minimum project value of £3,000)
  • Larger grants may be considered where substantial energy savings are demonstrated
  • Businesses must fund the remaining project costs

How to Qualify for a Grant

To qualify, your project must:

  • Be based on recommendations from an energy survey
  • Deliver a net reduction in carbon emissions
  • Include capital investments with a return on investment of more than one year
  • Be completed by December 2026
  • Have landlord consent where the applicant is a tenant and building changes are required
