Doncaster is attending UKREiiF as part of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority stand alongside Barnsley Council, Rotherham Council and Sheffield City Council. Our aim is to attract inward investment, generate economic growth and drive a more sustainable and inclusive culture within the property and construction industries across South Yorkshire.

The third annual UKREiiF event, is being held in Leeds from 21st-23rd May 2024 and brings together the public sector, with every core UK city and region – alongside Government, investors, funders, developers, housebuilders and more.

Doncaster's ambition is to return planes to the skies from the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA). On 21st March 2024, Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones announced that a 125-year lease to take over the airport has been signed. The process of appointing an operator and investor to manage and develop the airport is well underway with the hope of announcing a partnership in spring 2024. Click here to learn more about the > airport lease announcement

NEWS: Lease for former Doncaster Sheffield Airport signed

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones has announced that a lease to take over the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has been signed. The 125-year lease will help to ensure the future of the airport site with an ambition to return planes to the skies from the city.  

The announcement follows over a year of detailed and complex negotiations with landowners the Peel Group. The lease agreement is the first stage in the process to reopen the airport. The appointment of an airport operator to manage the operational airport is well underway with an announcement expected soon.

NEWS: Doncaster giant airship plant to create 1,200 jobs

The City of Doncaster Council and Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd, the UK-based leader in sustainable aircraft technology, have agreed to locate the production programme for Airlander 10, the world’s most efficient large aircraft.

In partnership will establish Carcroft Common as a hub for advanced manufacturing and sustainable aviation in South Yorkshire, creating over 1,200 new jobs and thriving supply chains. Hybrid Air Vehicles will also work closely with important regional partners like the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and the Doncaster UTC.

 

NEWS: Winvic Begins iPort Rail Doncaster Upgrade for Verdion

Work has commenced the multimillion pound upgrade to the iPort Rail inland port and is due to be completed in autumn 2025. 

iPort Rail sits within iPort, the UK’s most advanced multimodal logistics hub, offering 6 million sq ft of logistics and industrial space on an 800 acre site at the heart of the UK’s rail network and within 5 minutes of the M18. 

The terminal extension works will double its current size and storage capacity and increase number of trains that the terminal can accommodate each day, increasing the long distance, low carbon movement of goods.

NEWS: South Yorkshire investment zone to drive money into advanced manufacturing

The Government has revealed further details of six Investment Zones – including a zone in South Yorkshire.

These are designed to give each area a £160m envelope to catalyse local growth and investment. This includes offering tax reliefs to attract businesses to these zones, and initial investments in a range of interventions including on skills, research and innovation, and infrastructure.

South Yorkshire’s zone will drive investment and support scale up of businesses in the advanced manufacturing sector, building on the region’s established strengths and significant existing business base.
