Motorists in Doncaster will benefit from Government funding worth nearly £3m which is set to improve road safety on the A19 in Doncaster North.
As part of a larger funding stream split between Doncaster and North Yorkshire, £2.96million has been specifically awarded to the City of Doncaster council to improve safety measures along the A19, up to the boundary with North Yorkshire.
Improvements to the road will help reduce potential future collisions, congestion times and emissions, through projects to enhance safety, which could include:
The A19 road – which links Doncaster up-to North Yorkshire and the City of York – will see improvements over the next three years, with the full funding shared between Doncaster and North Yorkshire.
Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “Drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists will all benefit from a safer major transport link. Improved standards will reduce the possibilities of collisions and congestion and in-return benefit the local economy.
“We will seek to work alongside our partners in North Yorkshire to bring about these improvements to the A19 that will enhance both road safety and transport links between the City of Doncaster and North Yorkshire.”
The funding is part of a £38m roll-out plan from the Department for Transport to improve road safety across the country.
The City of Doncaster Council is a member of the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership - a group of local authorities, emergency services and public sector organisations working together to prevent people being killed or seriously injured in collisions on local roads.
