Young Doncaster electrician rings in 2026 with major business expansion

Voltec Electrical and Security, founded by Luke Shaw in 2018 after he took the leap to become self employed, is a commercial and industrial electrical contractor based in Doncaster, operating across the country.

The business provides electrical installation, maintenance and facilities support to commercial and industrial clients within a range of sectors, from schools, factories to restaurants and care homes.

Voltec has grown steadily in recent years on the back of repeat business and long-standing relationships.

As demand increased, Voltec outgrew its rented premises, with stock, equipment and materials putting increasing pressure on day-to-day operations.

Luke began looking for a permanent base that could support the next stage of the company’s development.

“When the opportunity came up to buy a brand-new unit nearby, I knew it was the right move,” said Luke. “We were getting to the point where the office just wasn’t working anymore – it was full of equipment and materials, and we had paperwork surrounded by ducting and wires!

“The new unit, located in Doncaster, provides a collaborative office space for meetings and training to take place, there is a board room table for client meetings and tonnes of additional storage, giving us the room we need to increase organisational capacity and develop with our clients.”

The move was supported by growth funding from Allica Bank, enabling Voltec to secure the new premises while keeping repayments manageable.

“Our new mortgage repayments are actually less than what we were paying in rent, which frees up cash to reinvest in the business and our people,” Luke added. “And as a bonus, we’ve now got something that’s ours, which gives us real security as we look ahead to 2026 and beyond.”

Alongside business growth, Luke has remained focused on developing local talent. Voltec has trained three apprentices into fully qualified electricians, all of whom remain with the business, while two more are currently gaining experience on commercial and industrial projects.

The move is expected to support further job creation locally as the business continues to expand.

Since working with Allica, Luke has also moved Voltec’s day-to-day banking to the challenger bank, which focuses on supporting established SMEs.
