The business located in Tickhill, Doncaster, work on a number of conservation-grade nature restoration projects and can help businesses reduce their carbon footprints
For the third year in a row, Highland Carbon has been named the ‘Best UK Wide Offset Supplier’ by SME News. According to Managing Director, Richard Clarke, “We are delighted to be recognised for the conservation-grade nature restoration projects that we supply.”
Clarke is a zoologist who worked previously in international conservation. Highland Carbon’s operational office is located in Tickhill, Doncaster. They have a field office in Galashiels, in the Scottish Borders.
Clarke has a passion for using science to identify exceptional locations for vast afforestation and wetland restoration projects. He then advises suppliers on high-grade project design. With respect to forestry, for example, this entails undertaking diverse native tree planting schemes including the reintroduction of rare species. Projects are located to enhance or expand high-grade habitats including Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Special Areas of Conservation, Special Protection Areas and United Nations Biospheres.
Thus far, Highland Carbon has worked with more than a dozen large estates located in dramatic landscapes across Scotland and Northern England. Coming soon, they expect to be suppling projects in the wilds of Northern Ireland.
Highland Carbon’s business clients fall into two categories. They are either actively and substantially reducing their carbon footprints, or they are start-up businesses with significant environmental credentials that also offer green solutions.
Highland Carbon supplies more than 60 companies in the voluntary carbon market. In other words, none of the businesses are heavy industry. They do not have to offset, rather, they do so to be good company citizens. Local clients include Synetiq, Regus, VRMT and New Design Group. Highland Carbon also supplies multinationals, including some of the largest buyers in the UK market.
In addition to supplying UK climate forests and wetlands to company clients, Highland Carbon, also sources quality international projects from more than seventy countries, for example: tropical rainforest conservation in Brazil, hydro-electric projects in Turkey, solar parks in India and many more. Highland Carbon also supplies a simple subscription service for individuals to mitigate their climate impacts via its second website: treewilder.com
Highland Carbon is presently a finalist for the Green Business of the Year Award with the Doncaster Chamber of Commence and for a South Yorkshire Sustainable Business Award.
