Local entrepreneur sets goal of accessible arts and fitness for students of all ages

Support from Business Doncaster has helped Anj Hardy develop DN4 Dance & Theatre Ltd.

A lifelong passion for the performing arts and the drive and ambition to create a multidisciplinary art-space led to local entrepreneur, Anj Hardy, setting up the DN4 Dance & Theatre School.

Working with students of all ages and abilities Anj and her team are committed to developing an accessible route to the arts and fitness, offering a range of activities ranging from ballet, yoga and dance to public speaking and plays.

“My teaching career started in 2009 in secondary schools and colleges across Yorkshire and Staffordshire and I have always been fascinated by the hugely positive impact of the arts on mental health and engagement with learning.” Anj told us.

In spite of the challenges of the Covid pandemic and a break-in, Anj is continuing to grow her business, working alongside the ME-Project, Doncaster Little Theatre and Bessacarr Primary School and her “home-grown” family of performers who have overcome barriers to performance such as low confidence, body dysmorphia, anxiety and arthritis. Alongside traditional classes, Anj is also interested in creating performance pieces exploring mental health and in particular, dementia.

Anj has received support from Business Doncaster since she set up DN4 Dance & Theatre. She attended a two-day business launch workshop and has developed her social media profiles after attending a content creation webinar. She was also fortunate enough to exhibit at the recent Doncaster Business Showcase which enabled her to network and meet more like-minded creative businesses from Doncaster and the surrounding areas.

“We originally started lessons in the Doncaster Catholic Club and St. Jude’s church hall in Hexthorpe, before finally relocating to our studio on Spring Gardens in November 2020. We have worked hard to grow our school over the last two years; taking part in community events, such as Doncaster Dances with the Royal Opera House and Armed Forces Day. My dream for the business would be to see it continue to grow within the community, with after school clubs and fitness classes.” Anj concluded.
