Supporting SEND starts with teachers: Doncaster’s new AI EdTech Solution

With more than one in five pupils in England identified as having SEND, teachers face growing pressure to adapt lessons effectively while managing already heavy workloads.

Many report lacking the time, resources and specialist support needed to deliver truly inclusive classroom teaching.

Doncaster-based start-up GeCo Technologies aims to change that. Founded by Owen Ball and Shaf Ahmed, the company has launched an AI-powered platform that helps teachers create curriculum-aligned resources with built‑in SEND adaptations. Using a proprietary library mapped to the UK curriculum, the platform generates worksheets, assessments, slides, and revision materials tailored to specific subjects and year groups - each automatically adjustable for different learner needs.

By standardising adaptations and reducing repetitive planning tasks, the tool is designed to save teachers time and improve the consistency of SEND provision across schools.

A key part of GeCo’s approach is involving educators directly. The company has formed a voluntary Education Advisory Board, inviting teachers, SENCOs and SEND specialists to shape the platform’s development and ensure it reflects real classroom pressures.

While based in Doncaster, GeCo’s mission addresses challenges seen nationwide: stretched SEND services, rising demand, and increasing complexity in pupil needs. The founders emphasise that their technology supports - rather than replaces professional judgement, giving teachers practical tools to make inclusive teaching more achievable every day.

GeCo is now recruiting contributors for its Advisory Board and preparing for a wider beta later this year.
