Businesses across Doncaster are being invited to share their views on crime and safety matters

The Community Safety Consultation, run by the Safer Stronger Doncaster Partnership (SSDP), is an opportunity for the local private sector to make its voice heard on a subject that is an absolute top priority for businesses.

The survey - which is open for two weeks - is an opportunity for the local private sector to make its voice heard on a subject that is an absolute top priority for businesses, while also helping to shape the plans and priorities of those agencies that are responsible for making our communities safer. Among other things, participants will be asked to describe their experiences when it comes to crime and antisocial behaviour, to identify which specific issues they believe are having the biggest impact on our city right now, and to outline how successfully they believe these problems are being tackled here in Doncaster.

The consultation with the business community has already begun, with members of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce recently attending an event with the council and police on this subject. Speaking about this, Dan Fell MBE, Chief Exec of the Chamber, said: “Local businesses have repeatedly stressed the importance of creating vibrancy across all parts of Doncaster, from the city centre to our local neighbourhoods. There is a need to stimulate increased demand in our city centre and neighbourhoods alike by developing a diverse offer that blends retail, leisure, housing, commercial activity, health on the high street and much more.

“However, for any current or future plans to be viable, our borough needs to feel safe and be widely perceived as such.  Many businesses have already made their views about this known to City of Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire Police, and Doncaster’s MPs.  This important consultation provides another opportunity to supply further evidence about what needs to improve at pace and why.  I urge Doncaster businesses to complete the survey and get their voices heard.”

Similarly encouraging businesses to take part in the consultation, Councillor Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Safer Communities at City of Doncaster Council, added: “We know that reducing crime and disorder is a top priority for many in the business community and have always taken these concerns seriously. On that note, this very month happens to mark the one-year anniversary of the Safer City initiative, which has seen significant investment in things like additional resources, brand new safety measures and increased patrols to help make Doncaster more secure.

“However, we know there is still more to be done. That’s why we need your feedback to help us understand the views of businesses and what they’d like to see us prioritise in the coming years. That way, we can decide how to best utilise the collective resources of the council, the police and all of our other partners to make our city a safer place. We will be listening carefully to what you tell us here, so it’s vital that you take this opportunity to have your say. Please spare just 10 minutes to complete the survey.”

This valuable feedback from the business community will then be collated alongside the results of a wider public consultation into safety matters (that took place earlier in the year) to get a full picture of what the entire community thinks about this issue.
