Doncaster Charity Celebrates its 4th Anniversary and Announces it's Back to Business

Doncaster Business for the Community (DB4C) a local charity formed by Doncaster business representatives four years ago has announced it is back and raring to go as Covid-19 restrictions begin to ease.

Like many charities its activities were badly affected by the pandemic and associated lockdown restrictions which led to almost all planned 2020 fundraising activities being cancelled. This in turn had a major impact on its fundraising activities and ability to support local causes, as it has done during the first 3 years of activity.

DB4C was established in February, 2017 and has held many successful charitable fundraising events such as, the Official Doncaster Business Community Cup – the football match played at the Keepmoat Stadium, the Official Doncaster Business Community Vase- the Charity Cricket Match contested between representatives of the business community- the last event in 2019 was held at the Tickhill Cricket Club. On that occasion DB4C’s event supported two local causes - Hygiene Bank and Create a Dream Foundation.

The Hygiene Bank said: “The Hygiene Bank Doncaster project had been running for eight months when we were selected as a joint recipient of the DB4C Vase, in September 2019. The funds raised enabled us to rent and stock our first storage unit. This was a game-changer for the project.  Since then, we have grown to a team of 8 and have distributed over 54 tonnes of hygiene and cleaning products. Between August and December 2020, we reached over 5000 individuals via our network of 44 organisations, which includes food banks, schools, hostels, supported housing schemes, refuges, family hubs, and community hubs across Doncaster. DB4C was the first organisation to support us with funding and we would like to thank everyone involved for the wonderful support."

Create a Dream Foundation said of the donation: “Thanks to DB4C we received an amount substantial enough to fund three dreams for seriously ill children.

We are very grateful for their help and hope to be a part of their plans in the future.”

DB4C had also supported the Children’s Air Ambulance, based at the local Doncaster Airport to help their vital work with seriously ill children. The charity said: “We are so grateful to Doncaster Business for the Community for all their support.

Their incredible fundraising efforts has made a real difference to the Children’s Air Ambulance charity – it’s meant that we have been able to continue transferring critically ill babies and children, at high-speed, from local hospitals to specialist paediatric and neonatal treatment centres across the UK.

"The £5,000 already raised has further helped our service reach pioneering milestones such as the new functionality of ECMO and nitric oxide on-board our aircraft, and helped us in transferring our 500th patient to the specialist care they desperately needed.

The Children’s Air Ambulance charity is continually looking at ways in which we can increase support to the NHS and the clinical teams we work with, so support like this is vital in continuing to lead the way in paediatric and neonatal transfer aviation, and to continue saving little lives.”

DB4C also held two extremely successful Charity Balls at the exclusive Bawtry Hall Venue, again raising vital funds for local causes.

Since DB4C’s establishment it has managed to donate thousands of pounds to different local charities and causes. Although last year was extremely challenging it still managed to continue to receive donations from generous supporters taking part in the DB4C’s 10x10k running event. In turn it was able to support to the Des Rankine Soccer School and local organisation Active Fusion, where the DB4C is supporting the Unified Leaders project.

Looking forward to the rest of this year DB4C plans to again hold the Official Doncaster Business Community Cup on the 5th June 2021 at the Keepmoat Stadium and the Doncaster Business Community Vase to be held at Tickhill Cricket Club on the 5th September continues throughout the year. Also, the 10x10k running event, generously supported by Westfield Health, will continue throughout 2021.

DB4C are delighted to confirm the main sponsors for the Official Doncaster Business Community Cup as The Crown Hotel Bawtry and Myzone the Health and Well-Being partner and for the Official Doncaster Business Community Vase as Polypipe and HBR Law.

Always keen to try new challenges DB4C are excited to announce their first Charity Angling Competition. This will be held on Saturday 21st August 2021 at the renowned Maver-Dynamite Hayfield Lakes at Auckley, where up to 80 anglers will compete for a first prize of £500.00, together with further cash prizes for second and third places.

More announcements on all these and future events will be made in the press, on social media and through the Charity’s website- www.db4c.org.uk

Chairman Tim Shaw said: “We are a local Doncaster Charity run by Doncaster business people and generously helped by superb support and sponsorship from the Doncaster business community. Last year was tough for many and numerous local causes and charities saw cuts to their income due to Covid-19. We are all looking forward to a brighter future and DB4C are delighted that we can announce our plans to commence our activities in 2021, have some fun and help some great local causes”.
