Meet our 'Maker of the Month' - Little Miss Stitch

After hand stitching decorations for her newborn's nursery, Hayley Butler was convinced by her friends to set up her own business.

Under the name Little Miss Stitch, Hayley makes felt garlands, decorations and gifts for all occasions from her Armthorpe home.

We sat down with Hayley to learn more about her and her business...

How did you set up your business?

"I set up my little business when I was on maternity leave with my third little boy. I started making items to decorate his nursery. My friends started asking me to make items for them also for their little ones bedrooms. I ended up having quite a few orders from friends so I decided to start a little business.

"My friends and family have been amazing and so supportive, sharing my items and spreading the word about my business."

Tell us more about what your business does…

"I make felt decorations and garlands which can be personalised so are perfect for new baby gifts to decorate nurseries or children's bedrooms or playrooms.

"I also make seasonal products such as my latest Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations."

How can people view and buy your products?

"I have an Etsy shop where I sell my products but people can also contact me via Facebook or Instagram to place orders."

Why did you join Handmade in Doncaster?

"The Handmade in Doncaster programme has been fab for my little business.

"The Facebook page has been a great networking tool and it has enabled me to meet other local makers which has been lovely to support each other.

"The group has provided me with lots of information about events and Winter markets where I can sell my products."

What does the future hold for your business?

I would love my little business to keep progressing in the future.

"I also work part time in another job so every second I have away from work I spend making.

"I just love sewing and creating but obviously with three young boys I don't have the time that I would like to put in to it at the moment.

"I'm hoping in years to come things may get a little easier allowing me more time to do what I love."
