Sensory Technology business is welcomed to Doncaster

The award winning innovators of sensory technology having developed a range of products to improve accessibility in public places.

AmbiSpace a business formed in 2016 by Kevin Wheatley, are award winning innovators of sensory technology having developed a range of products to improve accessibility in public places. Their main 3 products are the Sensory Nook, Bespoke sensory room design and installation and SensoryBox.

In 2010 Kevin first designed and built the Sensory Pod which was installed in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to provide specialist support for local children with disabilities.

They are skilled designers of sensory spaces both indoors and out with over 16 years of experience and can produce high quality rendered design images to support any project along with detailed construction plans for implementation.

Through a partnership with an American company, the Sensory Nooks are exported across the US via a UK distributor, however AmbiSpace is looking to expand the exporting activities themselves, as they see this as a huge opportunity to target other emerging countries.

In November 2021, they added fibre optic lighting production and manufacture to the business when it acquired equipment and stock from Flexion Ltd. With this additional offering, they built an alliance with a textile company and now produce fibre optic carpets, strands and light guides for sensory, aviation, medical, commercial and industrial clients. This area of the business is growing fast and is the main reason for now expanding into premises in Doncaster.

AmbiSpace have plans to design and manufacture the next generation fibre optic products and their move to Doncaster brings business investment to the area through acquiring premises and creating new jobs. They have already committed to a 10-year lease on a unit at Kirk Sandall Industrial Estate with the help of the Tech Welcome Grant, a scheme designed to attract technology businesses to the region, creating further jobs and boosting the local economy. They are busy planning their future and envisage creating between 7-10 local jobs over the next 6 months as they get up to speed with production.

The business has received one to one support from the Business Doncaster team in understanding their areas of strength and providing key introductions to the Tech Welcome scheme and the regional Made Smarter programme. This helped with set up and future digitalisation development and training and created a funding opportunity to purchase a new cutting table. Dedicated support is also being sought towards the 9001 ISO accreditation requirements, in order to add credibility to their product range ready for new international markets.
