Intertrain

As a leading training provider for the railway industry, you may think that putting on skills workshops for its own employees would be the last thing a business would need.

Doncaster business Intertrain has big ambitions – ones that require constant innovation and development to help continue on their impressive journey of growth and success. To help realise these aims they got in touch with Business Doncaster for additional business support.

The Enhancement Project is financed by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Formed in 2003, Intertrain started with just two members of staff. Fast forward 15 years, it now boasts 10 established training centres across the country and employs over 90 staff, 60 of which are trainers.

Development Manager, Sam Raeburn isn’t one for resting on his laurels, though:  “We supply our training services to the very biggest contractors and agencies in the rail sector” he said.

“Now, we’re looking to branch out into other areas, therefore, we need to improve our own skills as part of that business plan.”

A number of their managers attended specific Masterclasses hosted by the Enhancement Project on a range of topics such as different management styles and internal engagement approaches, while other colleagues took part in seminars, workshops and local networking events.

“It has been a brilliant experience so far,” Sam said.

“Business Doncaster staff are extremely accommodating, always providing professional support and providing us with just what we need as a business to continue with our growth, not just in the rail sector but beyond too – and that certainly makes for an exciting future.”

The Sheffield City Region Growth Hub Enhancement Project is receiving up to £2.7m of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (and in London the intermediate body Greater London Authority) is the Managing Authority for the European Regional Development Fund. Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
