The South Yorkshire Innovation Programme (SYIP) is a regional innovation support initiative designed to help organisations across South Yorkshire innovate, grow, and improve competitiveness. It is led by Sheffield Hallam University, working in partnership with the University of Sheffield and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, with £3 million of funding from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. The programme has been co-designed with all four South Yorkshire local authorities to support economic growth and productivity across the region.
SYIP provides tailored innovation support for businesses and organisations, including academic consultancy, technical innovation projects, innovation audits, discovery days, student projects and placements, access to specialist university equipment and facilities, and a programme of events and technical workshops. It also offers funded support to help organisations implement existing or off-the-shelf innovation solutions.
The programme aims to support organisations to develop new ideas, improve processes, enter new markets, or launch products and services. Support is available across a wide range of themes, including artificial intelligence, business management, computing, engineering, energy solutions, health and wellbeing, supply chains, and product or packaging design.
To be eligible, organisations must be based or registered in South Yorkshire. Funding and contribution requirements vary depending on the type of support requested, and organisations are required to register their interest to access the programme.
