The Doncaster Business Community Cup returns on 5th June

After the challenges of 2020 there is truly light at the end of the tunnel when on Saturday 5th June at 3pm players from our local business community will once again emerge and take their positions on the hallowed turf of the Keepmoat Stadium to contest the 2021 DB4C Business Community Cup.

The long-awaited return of this highly popular annual event will once again see The Business All Stars and The Commercial Legends competing for the trophy as DB4C also celebrates its fourth anniversary and in anticipation of an eventual return to normality, re-launches its sports themed fundraising events with participants drawn from businesses across Doncaster with the common goal of providing much needed support for local causes.

Once more, the event will involve two squads of 18 players who will contest the Cup over 90 minutes with penalties being the decider should the scores be level at full time.  Each player will enjoy a truly professional footballer experience from 12 weeks of training, under the guidance of coaches from Doncaster Rovers FC, which starts with the usual open training session at The Keepmoat Stadium on Monday 29th March at 6pm.

Last year’s match was naturally cancelled due to the effects of the Pandemic but the 2019 match was a record breaker with an incredible £9000 of funds raised for the chosen charities of the Children’s Air Ambulance and the Doncaster People’s Disabled Alliance

This year’s beneficiaries will be Active Fusion, who strive to engage young people in physical activity in Doncaster, Doncaster Mind who provide a range of services and support to people experiencing, or vulnerable to mental ill health and Club Doncaster Foundation who for more than 30 years have provided education, sport and physical activity opportunities and have adapted their services to ensure they could continue to serve and support their community during the pandemic.

Lindsay James, Director of Active Fusion said: "I am delighted that we have been nominated as a chosen charity for the DB4C Doncaster Business Community Cup.  We engaged 27,000 young people through the power of sport in 2019 and these funds will enable us to work with even more young people to improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.  We hope to develop a love for being active by creating positive habits that last a lifetime for all young people across Doncaster".

John Davis, Chief Operating Officer of Club Doncaster Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Doncaster Business for the Community have selected us as one of their chosen charities for this year’s event programme. After what has been a challenging year for us all, we’re excited that events and activity can start to be planned for and we look forward to working with DB4C to develop this partnership in the coming months and years. This support will directly help us to support our community as we recover from this pandemic.”

DB4C Director and Trustee, Anthony Temperton added: “This is a truly great event and a great partnership with Doncaster Rovers FC and Club Doncaster Foundation.  Those who sign up will have the opportunity of playing in a competitive match at the stadium, being coached by some great local coaches and doing their bit for charity in the local community.”

“At DB4C we are not just about supporting local causes and charities, we are also about improving the health and wellbeing of business employers and their staff throughout the Doncaster area and this is an excellent example of our work.

“We are also delighted to announce our new ‘Goalden Ticket’ incentive where alongside Club Doncaster Foundation we are giving Club Doncaster Foundation supporters and current and past participants the chance to take part on this event for a donation of £20."

Business people from around Doncaster have already signed up to be a player on one of the teams so places are very limited.

DB4C are currently taking registrations of further players to take part and the cost is just £225 per player and this includes: 10 weeks training up to the event, personalised training top, full kits with name & number on the back (for you to keep), participation medal, great match experience, video stream of the game, ticket for the DB4C Annual Sports Awards Dinner in October to be hosted by our match sponsors, The Crown Hotel Bawtry, networking with other like-minded business people, and finally a chance to do your bit for charity in the local community (Terms & Conditions of participation will apply, please contact DB4C for further details and to reserve your place).
